Facts Are Facts
Posted by Childress on May 27, 2006
A friend of mine likes to say, "You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts."
When it comes to drugs, there are lots of opinions out there: Some think drugs are safe and fun, some think they're dangerous and frightening, and many think everything in between.
But facts are facts, and when someone dies from drugs, or someone is murdered by a person who is on drugs, or is raped by someone who has given them drugs, that's just a fact. Drug users who actively promote drug use rail against these facts, and I expect they'll be commenting regularly on The Drug Report. But they can't change the facts.
I am presenting these facts, gleaned primarily from newspaper sources, so people can consider them when thinking about using drugs or use them when talking to others about drugs.
I look forward to your comments. Thanks!

What about this fact –
The risk of death due to the consumption of ecstasy is less than that of many ‘risky’ sports such as Sky diving, Horseriding and even fishing.
?
Whilst there’s no doubt it’s a risk, it’s minimal one.

This is a very typical response from a drug user. First of all, question the argument. Fishing? Perhaps if commercial crab fishing is included, but that is hardly a sport. I doubt the other two are true either, if one considers global Ecstasy use and the fact that death by Ecstasy is frequently attributed to some other cause, i.e., the medical condition that killed them, not the drug that brought about the medical condition.
In any case, this blog doesn’t exist to split hairs or compare one type of dying to another. It simply presents news regarding drug use. You are free to use this information as you choose.
